Delhi Salary & PT — Frequently Asked Questions

No. Delhi does not levy Professional Tax on salaried employees. PT is a state subject under the Indian Constitution, and the Delhi government has chosen not to impose it. If your employer is deducting PT and your work location is Delhi, verify with your HR department whether your company is registered in another state.

PT liability depends on the state where your employer is registered, not where you physically work. If your employer is registered in Haryana (Gurugram), Haryana PT applies. If registered in Uttar Pradesh (Noida), UP does not currently levy PT either. Check your offer letter or HR team for your employer's registered state.

Delhi minimum wages for FY 2025–26 are among the highest in India: Unskilled ₹17,234, Semi-skilled ₹18,981, Skilled ₹20,906, and Highly Skilled ₹23,000. These are revised twice a year. Use our Minimum Wages Calculator for all states.

ESI is applicable to all employees earning a gross salary of ₹21,000/month or less, regardless of industry. Most IT company employees in Delhi earn above this threshold and are therefore exempt from ESI. For employees earning ₹21,000 or below, both employee (0.75%) and employer (3.25%) contributions apply.

The statutory PF ceiling means that for employees earning a basic salary above ₹15,000, PF deduction is mandatory only on ₹15,000 (i.e., ₹1,800/month minimum). However, both employer and employee can voluntarily contribute on the full basic salary. Many companies in Delhi contribute on the full basic as a benefit.
